Even before babies begin to crawl, what can their movements reveal about potential neuromotor dysfunction?

Nearly 50 health-care professionals from across the country explored this topic during a conference held August 6-9 in Cleveland State University¡¯s new Center for Innovation in Medical Professions.

Co-presented by CSU and the Cleveland Clinic, the event offered rare continuing-education courses rooted in the work of the late Dr. Heinz Prechtl, an influential Austrian developmental neurologist. He observed that for babies five months old or younger, the ¡°general movements¡± of typical infants differ from those of infants at risk for cerebral palsy and other developmental disorders.
