As part of the Cleveland Humanities Festival, Cleveland State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is sponsoring a lecture by Dr. Allyson L. Robichaud titled, “Respect for Nature: An Intentional Ethical Stance,” on Wednesday, April 10.

Philosopher Paul Taylor and naturalist Aldo Leopold both argue against the view that the sole value of nature and its inhabitants rests upon their ability to meet human needs and desires. Dr. Robichaud’s lecture will focus on the works of Taylor and Leopold and the arguments they put forth in order to justify the view that humans need to adopt an attitude of respect for nature and other nonhuman beings.

The event, which is free and open to the public, begins in the Drinko Recital Hall at 5:30 p.m.

Dr. Robichaud is an associate professor and chair in the CSU Department of Philosophy and Comparative Religion, and her expertise lies in theoretical and applied ethics. Dr. Robichaud received her Ph.D. in Philosophy at the City University of New York.

The 2019 Cleveland Humanities Festival explores the relationship between society and the world of nature from a variety of perspectives in history, literature and the arts.
