CSU celebrates graduating students who have overcome obstacles, made significant achievements or are fulfilling Cleveland State University¡¯s mission in or outside the classroom.

Today, we celebrate Dania Amra ¡¯24.

CSU: Have you had any significant internships/co-ops/careers while at CSU?

DA: Absolutely! My career at Ulta Beauty has been a cornerstone of my journey while pursuing my education at CSU. Starting as a beauty advisor, I worked my way up to lead cashier and eventually became merchandise manager, a role that was both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Each position taught me invaluable lessons in leadership, team management, and operational excellence. This role allowed me to foster strong relationships with my team, mentor new associates, and cultivate an environment where everyone felt valued and empowered.

These experiences at Ulta Beauty pushed me to grow as a leader and instilled a sense of pride in my ability to inspire others to reach their full potential. Balancing this demanding career with my academic pursuits at CSU was no small feat. However, it taught me resilience, time management, and the value of hard work, qualities I carry in every aspect of my life. My career at Ulta was more than just a job, it was a platform that shaped my confidence, honed my skills, and prepared me to face any challenge with determination and passion.

CSU: How would you describe the connections you have made with the faculty and staff at CSU?

DA: The faculty and staff at CSU have been instrumental in my academic and personal growth. They¡¯ve fostered a supportive environment where I¡¯ve been encouraged to challenge myself and pursue my goals with confidence. Professors have taken the time to understand my aspirations, offering guidance that has been both inspiring and practical. Their belief in my potential has been a driving force behind my achievements, and I¡¯m deeply grateful for the genuine connections I¡¯ve formed here. Their mentorship has taught me that education extends beyond the classroom, it¡¯s about building relationships that inspire lifelong learning and impact.

CSU: How has Cleveland State inspired you for your future?

DA: CSU has profoundly inspired me to view challenges as opportunities and to leverage my education to create meaningful change. The university¡¯s focus on fostering leadership, resilience, and innovation has been a guiding force in my journey. At CSU, I learned that setbacks, such as personal struggles, are steppingstones to growth when approached with determination and the right mindset. This perspective has equipped me to face future challenges with confidence.

CSU has also ignited my passion for community engagement, reinforcing the belief that true leadership lies in uplifting others. As I look to the future, I am motivated to pursue roles where I can drive change, advocate for equity, and inspire others to rise above adversity, values deeply rooted in CSU¡¯s mission.

CSU: How do you think you have fulfilled the CSU¡¯s mission?  

DA: CSU¡¯s mission resonates deeply with my journey, and I have strived to embody its values in every aspect of my life. I¡¯ve empowered others by leading with compassion and purpose, whether motivating my team at Ulta Beauty to achieve record-breaking success or creating a culture where everyone felt valued and supported.

My role as a chaperone for St. Paul Lutheran Church & School was especially meaningful, as I guided young campers through activities that built their confidence and fostered a sense of belonging. Engaging my community has been a cornerstone of my journey, from volunteering at a local restaurant to organizing meals for over 100 homeless families, a humbling experience that reinforced my belief in the power of kindness and collective action.

Through these efforts, I¡¯ve not only created knowledge but transformed it into action, using my skills and experiences to shape a world that is more inclusive, compassionate, and inspired by the shared strength of a connected community.
