Repeated Course Policy

Federal regulations limit the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive financial aid for that course. The following regulations apply to all students (regardless of grade-level):

A student may receive aid to repeat a previously passed course (earned grade of D or higher) only one additional time. This includes course(s) transferred from another institution where a passing grade was earned.

  • As per Federal regulation, passed means any grade higher than "F", regardless of any school or program policy requiring a higher qualitative grade or measure to have been considered to have passed the course.
  • A student may receive Title IV funds (federal financial aid) for retaking a course they failed, regardless of the number of times the course was attempted and failed.
  • Retaking courses in which a "W" was received is not considered repeating courses.
  • Once a student has completed any course twice with a passing grade, they are no longer eligible to receive aid for that course.
  • If a student decides to retake a course that is not aid eligible, a recalculation of aid must be done to exclude the credits for that course.
  • This rule applies whether or not the student received aid for earlier enrollments in the course.
  • Students will receive notification of any possible violations of this policy.

Please note, the repeat course policy for financial aid differs from the Registrar's Repeat Course Policy.
