For this reason, your Student Success team has constructed a course to familiarize you with CSU, along with the services, tools and resources available to you.  This course is mandatory for all incoming students.

Access and complete the CLEstate compass course

You can access CLEState Compass by logging into Blackboard.

Once you are on the Blackboard Login website, you will need to select 'LOGIN TO BLACKBOARD'. You will then be asked to enter in your CSUID# and Password. Once you are in Blackboard, you will navigate to Courses and find your CLEstate Compass Summer 2024 course.

Deadline to Complete the CLEstate Compass:

Students starting in Summer or Fall must complete the CLEstate Compass by the Friday before the first day of classes.

REQUIREMENTS BEFORE BEGINNING:

Content in the Blackboard course may open in a new window. For this reason, it is important that you:

  • Make sure that you have the latest version of your browser.
  • Disable your pop-up blocker or allow pop-ups for Blackboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no charge for the course.

The course is for new students at Cleveland State University that have completed orientation.

All new undergraduate, first-year students must complete this course. Students starting classes in Summer or Fall must complete the course by the Friday before Fall classes begin. 

For any questions you have related to Blackboard, please contact the Center for eLearning.

You can complete the course in one or more sittings. You can work on a module, stop and come back right where you left off. Remember, this course has been created to introduce you to Cleveland State University, so don't rush through the course!

You can access the course as often as you would like throughout the summer. You can also revisit any of the content and modules within the course any time during the summer. 

No, you will not receive a point-value grade for the CLEstate Compass course, but will be tracked for course completion. Throughout the modules in this course, there will be short knowledge checks to assess your understanding of the material. Your results on these knowledge checks will not be recorded or result in a grade that will be added to your academic transcripts or GPA.  It is important to note that your ASC 101 course may require proof that you have completed this course. In doing so, not completing the course fully could impact your overall grade in ASC 101 (or equivalent) or any other course asking you to provide a certificate of completion.

Throughout the modules in this course, there will be short knowledge checks to assess your understanding of the material. Once you have reviewed and completed all of the required content in the CLEState Compass Course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. You must complete the entire course to earn the CLEState Compass Certificate of Completion. In the final lesson of this course - 'Congratulations! You're a Viking!', you must complete the linked Feedback Survey and will be given linked access to view, save, and print your CLEState Compass Certificate of Completion. You will not be able to access the 'Congratulations! You're a Viking!' lesson or the Certificate of Completion until you have completed the entire course. Upon receiving your Certificate of Completion for the CLEstate Compass Course, you will have officially passed the course and be prepared to start your academic journey as a Cleveland State Viking!
